If you're American, then imagine an "English Muffin" but with bigger air bubbles, more like a ciabatta. They're eaten in much the same way and have a rubbery but pleasant texture
Edit: guys below, it's not necessarily a savoury snack :) it's neutral, and can go both ways. Butter and jam is my preferred way.
A crumpet is a savoury snack made from flour and yeast. It is eaten mainly in the United Kingdom, but also in the nations of the Commonwealth.
A baked pastry that the British have with tea. Kinda like a tea cake in the Colonies.
a bit like an english muffin. made with a yeast batter, cooked on a griddle in a ring shape. it has lots of little holes in it. you buy them in packets. toast them and eat them with butter and honey, jam, or any other yummy topping.
A crumpet is a savoury snack made from flour and yeast that is typically toasted then buttered.
Salma Hayek is also excellant crumpet.
English muffin..
It is similar to the English Muffin. I believe they have larger holes and hold more yummy spreads, such as butter, honey, and jams. The Europeans usually serve them with tea at tea time as a treat or eat them as a light snack to tide them over till dinner.
yummy food
Many moons ago I was talking with a buddy who is from the UK. He noticed this fine looking girl coming our way. He poked me with his elbow and sez, ey mate, check out this nice bit-o-crumpet.
Over the years I've used the term many many times, and now I find out that a crumpet ain't nothing but a damn biscuit with butter on it. I'd sure thought it woulda been something a little more tasty than that.
its delicious hot with butter and a cup of tea, mmmmm
a fancy word for biscuit! a biscuit like you get at KFC or Red Lobster.
