Chicken and waffles? Is this a southern dish?!

Question: I never heard of it till I came to Nevada.

Answers: I never heard of it till I came to Nevada.

Chicken and waffles is now a southern thing...but the original home of it was Harlem...they do say some of the freed slaves in the 1860's headed north and on the way they would ring a chickens neck and when they would fry it they would thow some dough in and fry it too..but that'd be more of a dough nut...... and some people say President Jefferson bought back a waffle iron from France and had them with every meal.....but the original Chicken and Waffles was The Wells Supper Club in Harlem...not Roscoes!!!!!!!

It's a southern thing. They have some places that sell it in California.

I'm not so sure it's strictly southern. I lived in NE Pa. and came across it there at an old style local diner. Never came across it in my time in the south (several years).

Okay, according to wiki there are two types of chicken and waffles the ones that are served with fried chicken and syrup and the kind I've had which is broiled chicken with a waffle and gravy. No one knows for sure where or when either recipe originated.

In Pennsylvania, it's, broiled chicken, homemade waffles and cream gravy! delicious!

Roscoe's chicken in Hollywood,CA (?) It's fried chicken, waffles and honey or syrup dripped all over everything! yuck-o!

yes lol haven't you heard of the restaurant "Rosco's Chicken & Waffles"?

Yes... Fried Chicken and waffles is very Southern.

You should rent the 1988 Bill Fishman movie "Tapeheads", since 'Chicken 'n' Waffles' are integral to the plot!
