What is the spice sprinkled on the outside of samosa?!

Question: I've had samosa at many Indian restaurants and some restaurants sprinkle a spice on the outside of the samosa. I can't place it...it's almost like a salty flavour. Does anyone know what the spice or spice mixture is?
