Does anyone know if there is a cooking substitute for SUET?!

Question: I need something that is more widely available.

Answers: I need something that is more widely available.

In the recipes that I have made that called for suet, I have been able to get away with using a good quality unsalted butter.
Hope this helps

I would ask at the local grocery-since suet is simply beef fat, surely they could obtain it for you. Otherwise you might try fatback.

Depends on how it's going to be used. If it's for wrapping something try bacon. If you're spreading, smearing or melting it use Manteca (lard), Crisco, or even butter.

Have you asked your butcher? I don't know a meat market in America that doesn't have suet laying around. Especially this time of year, when alot of people ask for it to use in winter time bird feeders.

But in answer to your question, you could try lard (probably much less available than suet) or *real* butter, not margarine or vegetable spread.

Crisco or Lard

I live in California IN my 67years I have never seen suet in a meat store..
