What type of food to expect in Italy?!

Question: I'm going to Italy at the end of March. I'm just wondering what types of foods I should expect to eat. I'm allergic to all seafood, and have been told there are lots of seafood dishes there. Am I only going to be able to eat the pasta and pizza dishes or is there something you'd suggest I try (if I see it)?

Italian food is delicious. They do have a lot of seafood but they have beef and lamb and pork also, and they eat a lot of vegetables.

Italian roasts are very flavorful. The outsides are coated with herbs and they are simply delicious. There are also these lovely delicatessen type store that sell finger sandwiches and chocolates and things like that. I particularly remember a little sandwich with salami and egg.

I'd say try everything!

pasta primavera!
ravioli!

try paninis and such... they are sandwiches and you can get them made with pretty much w.e. you want on them

pizza?

You will be able to get meat dishes in sauces as well as the pasta and pizza.

Pasta, Pizza

But if you go there and are going to venice that sucks because it is built on water. and water has LOTS of fishies.

pasta,pasta,pasta lol

alot of bread too
and sausage

ohh and if u go to venice try the gilattos

What cities are you visiting? I think most of the seafood dishes are more popular in the south.

Italian cuisine is not very like or typical of what you see here in the States. The food can be very different from town to town even. In the north the staple is Polenta and more peasant type meals. In the south its typically spicier, saucier and more seafood.

Watch an episode of "Malto Mario" on the food network, and you'll get a good idea of what authentic Italian cuisine is.

what type of food to expect in Italy...i don't know. Italian food?
