My mom used to cook all kind of dishes.
Of course rice is never forgotten.
There are always at least a meat dish, a vegetable dish, and a protein dish.
The meat is cooked with chili or coconut milk, or curried.
The vegetables are usually stir fried or made into soup.
And the protein is fried or whatever, it's alternately made of tofu, tempe, or fish.
Chili is a must in our home.
My favorite is balado daging kentang. It's fried sliced beef and potato with ground chili. I just love it.
But my mom has passed away, and no one can make it as good as mom.

We are Filipino and Hawaiian. Growing up in Hawaii we were served food from East and SE Asian cuisines as well as Hawaiian food. So we got a lot of everything. I live in San Francisco now but still make a lot of the things I grew up with at home.
