What is Dastarkhan in Avadh Cuisine?!

Question: Hint:
Its Like Wazwan in Kashmir

Answers: Hint:
Its Like Wazwan in Kashmir

"Dastarkhwan" literally means a meticulously laid-out ceremonial dining spread. It is customary in the Awadh region for three generations to sit around and share the Dastarkhwan. Laden with the finest and the most varied repertoire of the ‘Bawarchis’ (cooks), the Dastarkhwan of the ‘Roessa’ (the rich) were called ‘Khasa’ (special). The book, Dastarkhwan-e-Avadh is the only book currently available that presents the cornucopia of recipes from the ‘Khasa’ category.

A quick add-on. I think the "ceremonial dining spread" above refers to "spread" as in "bedspread" --- which is what Dastar means -- when you say, "Dastar Bhicchao"... i.e. spread the cover/cloth... and Khwan, not Khan, -- means eating -- so combining the words, DastarKhwan, means eating together on a large ceremonial floorspread/floorcloth.

'dastarkhwan'... is a piece of cloth (like a tablecloth)... that is spread for taking food... plates and bowls with eatables are placed on this cloth while taking food...

it is an dining accessory... and not a cusine...

Dastarkhan describes a piece of embroidered cloth which is spread on the floor or table around which all the family members will sit and have their meal All the utensils containing food are placed on this cloth...it is not an item of food.

aha you are bringing back the memories of "chess players"! Last semester I taught this short story to my students and they fell in love with the word dastarkhan...to them (mostly caucasian kids) this word felt like a lyric...so much more poetic than a dining table!

yes.

*I think u shd chk the spelling !!!!
D'khan means the table cloth of a dining table & the food spread/ laid on it !!!!!
