Mango pie?!

Question: I have seen some yummy recipes for peach pie, I was wondering if I could use mangoes instead of peaches. Has anyone made mango pie? Do you think it will work? I am not a baker, so any suggestions would be great.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

Mangoes have a higher acidity rate, so they become more squishy when baked.

Too avoid this..use mangoes that are not completely ripe and proceed with the recipe..

I saw this one on TV, it looks pretty good:

Hope it turns out ok!

Haha, mango instead of peaches? that's like replacing saffran with salt! what an insult...mango instead of peaches, pfft, you od to be ashamed!

I love mangoes so it sounds like a very tasty idea!

Hey "I'm out of wine",
The mango is called the king of fruits! I'd say peaches are the queen, but that honor officially goes to the mangosteen.

Yes, definitely. But make sure youuse very ripe mangoes or canned mangoes.

Here in the Philippines, we make mango tarts, pies, cakes, and a real yummy mango cheesecake.

MANGO-CHERRY PIE

1 c. pitted tart red cherries
2 c. sliced ripe mango
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. butter
4 drops almond extract
Red food coloring (opt.)
Pastry for 9" lattice top pie

Drain cherries reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Combine sugar and flour; stir in cherry juice. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick. Add fruits, butter, almond extract and a few drops red food coloring, if desired. Let stand while preparing pastry.

Line 9" pie plate with pastry. Fill. Moisten edge; top with lattice crust, flute edges. Bake in a very hot oven, 425 degrees, for 8 to 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 40 to 45 minutes longer or until bubbly in the center.

This recipe was originally a peach-cherry pie recipe that I adapted to use with mangoes. Mangoes can be substituted in place of peaches in many recipes very nicely.
