Zorak Asks,"I've never eaten at an (Eastern) Indian Cuisine restaurant; what are some recommended meals?!
What meals are good, how are they pronounced, and what are some meals to avoid?
Serious answers only, please.
Answers: O.K., don't tell me a certain meal only to have it turn out to be really nasty.

You've gotta check out these pages - they are brilliant descriptions and should answer all the questions about Indian food you haven't even thought of yet. I totally agree with their descriptions and I spent quite a bit of time in India and I cook Indian at home regularly (no - not from a jar either!).
Make sure you read 'em both!

If you have never tried it before then maybe best to start with some of the milder dishes. I have always found that staff are only to happy to help and suggest dishes. Khorma is a very mild dish but it's also quite rich and creamy so may not be to your taste. Tikka masala is usually a winner with first timers. You usually get the choice of lamb, chicken, prawn or vegs.
I can tell you about some good Kolkata (East India) food + recipes...Kolkata is basically a fish eating city...Machar jhol (fish curry) and fried fish are specialities...in veg they love yellow dal...and luchi alloo..hope this helps
I am Indian:
Naan (flatbread)
Veg Biryani (rice & veggies)
Butter Chicken (buttery chicken currry)
Shrimp Tikka Masala (shrimp curry)
Bhindi Masala (okra dish)
Mango Lassi (mango yogurt smoothie)
It's all delicious, so try whatever you are in the mood for. The waiter will help, ask about the restaurant specials.
