What is a grouse?!

Question: I caught a European cooking show on the tv half way thru and they were demonstrating "stuffed grouse". I am not quite sure what a grouse even is or what it tastes like! The finished dish looked very good. Any details or favorite recipes? Is this a European dish? If so, from which country is it?

THANKS.

It is in the quail and partridge family and are also called ptarmigans--small game bird often caught with nets and snares. They are field or forest dwelling.

It builds nests on the ground, does not migrate, and has feathered legs and feet. Very rotund and fatty--tastes somewhat like a cornish hen and is closely related to the domestic chicken. Here's a pic:

Tis a small bird.

its a bird.... the live in fields i think, but can be in the woods...

there kinda small, like a chicken, i think...

They are birds caught in the wilds of Scotland they usually sell them in pairs a male and female they call it a brace. The male has lovely coloured feathers

It's a medium-small bird like a quail, it has grey and white bushy feathers, it is mainly European, but i don't have any good recipes for it. It is usually served around the area of Spain, and the countries around that, but quail is served much more there.

quail or a pheasant...looks like a small chicken...never ate one but they probably taste like chicken

A wild bird that ends up on a dinner plate if it does a poor job hiding in the underbrush.
