That sounds like a tandoor, which is actually a clay oven probably of Indian or Balkan origin, rather than "Middle-Eastern"...though the tandoor has spread all over the world now.

A tandoor. I saw it used on Food TV. looked very interesting, there was a recipe involved also

middle eastern cooking is good

i want some!

It is a TANDOOR oven from India. It is made of clay and can with stand very high temps. The food is usually marinated in a yogurt based marinade so it remains moist and juicy.

It is a Tandoor, and the dish Tandoori Chicken is named thusly because it is cooked in a Tandoor.

I have seen it used to bake flatbread, with the raw dough slapped on the inside wall of the Tandoor, where it sticks and gets baked.

Other stuff cooked in it are Shish Kebab or other skewered meats and vegetables, using long sword-like metal rods that are plunged vertically into the Tandoor, and made to stand on end against the side of the oven.
