My mom made lunch today, and she cooked a type of grain... At least I think it's a grain or something.?!

Question: It feels grainy, it's brown and I know it isn't American food. She doesn't know how to say what it's called in English. She calls it "Blay." I would just like to know if anyone has any idea as to what it is.

Before it's cooked, it hard and looks like a grain you'd find in bread or something. But once it was cooked, it kind of puffed up like rice.

Well, ble is French for wheat. I'm wondering if it's not wheat berries (boiled grains of wheat). Hope it was yummy.

perhaps it is quinoa. it's pronounced keenwah or cous cous.

defiantly Barley!

It might even be something like barley?
