Authentic sauce needed?!


Question: i'm crazy for sweet n sour pork but i want to make it at home instead of buying it from the local chinese take away shop so if anybody knows the true way to make this sauce do let me know thanks

You may like this easy recipe:

EASY SWEET AND SOUR PORK

1 1/2 lbs. lean pork steak
2 tbsp. oil
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 c. pineapple juice (add water if necessary to make 1 cup)
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1 (No. 2) can pineapple chunks
3/4 c. sliced or cubed green pepper
1/4 c. sliced onion

Cut pork steak into 1/4 to 1/2 inch strips. Brown in oil. Add water and simmer one hour.

Drain pineapples reserving juice. Add water to make 1 cup. Pour in saucepan with vinegar and bring to boil. Mix cornstarch, salt, brown sugar and add to pineapple juice. Boil to thicken. Add soy sauce. Pour over meat. Let stand 10 minutes. Add pineapple chunks, onion and green pepper and simmer 3 minutes. Serve over white rice. Serves 4.

I don't know about the authentic way... but you can buy sauce in a jar that is sweet & sour - any grocery store in the international aisle will have it.

I cook sweet/sour pork/chicken/fish all the time, and never bought sauce.

Saute ginger, garlic and onions over high heat. Add quartered tomatoes, pineapple cubes, green and red peppers. Add tomato or banana catsup and brown sugar. Thicken with 2 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1 cup water. Top with 1 tsp sesame oil.

Serve on battered deep-fried meats or fish. Decorate with sliced green onions or cilantro leaves. Add tabasco if you want it spicy.
