I want to make some indian type cuisine, what do you recommend?!

Question: I love experimenting with foods from other countries, tonight i want to try some indian food. I've never cooked indian food, and i was wondering what is good and what should i make tonight.

I like spicy stuff, but what you recommend doesnt have to be, im just looking for something good. Also if the recipie involves meat, i have to limit myself to chicken

I have only eaten true Indian food once, and I had Chicken Curry. It was amazing! I would definitely suggest trying that, as I bet the recipes for it aren't too complex. And since it's a slightly basic recipe, you could play around with the spices. It can be as mild or kickin' as you want! Good luck cooking! :)

Start easy with something simple like Tandoori chicken. As far as spicy food goes, you can control or limit the amount yourself.

You can also buy both tandoori powder or tandoori marinade in any Indian store.

Best tip: the longer you marinate, the better (48 hrs+)

For the Tandoori Marinade:

5-6 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 piece of ginger, peeled and finely minced (about 1? inches in length)
3 cups of plain yogurt
2 small green chilies, finely minced (to taste)
Juice of 1 lemon
3 tbsp tandoori paste OR 4 tbsp tandoori masala powder (given below)
salt and pepper to taste

**************************************...

Tandoori Masala (Powder)

2 tbsp garam masala
2 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground coriander
4 tsp paprika
2 tsp ground dried fenugreek leaves (methi powder)
1 tsp turmeric
? tsp red chili powder

Method:

Combine all of the ingredients above and store in an airtight container for 4-6 weeks.

Marinate boneless/skinless chicken and either cook on a grill or broil in an oven.

You can make chicken briyani.Make sure u use basmathi rice.Im sure you can find the briyani powder. And its simple but nice. You can have chicken kurma wit it.Absolutely delicious.
Or You can cook tandoori and naan.

Pasta with a zangy sauce.

Why don't you try this vegetarian recipe
Alu-gobi (sauteed potato and cauliflower in spicy sauce)
Cauliflower florets- steamed
Potato chunks- semi-cooked in microwave
1 small onion- chopped
chopped cilantro- 1/2 cup
1 (roma or vine ripe)tomato-chopped
Oil-2tbsp
Bay leaf-1
cumin seeds- 1tsp
chili power-1tsp
turmeric powder- 1tsp

Heat oil in a wok. add cumin seeds and bay leaf, let it splutter. add chopped onion, saute till turn golden brown, saute tomato. add potato and cauliflower, saute, add chili and turmeric power. cover and let it simmer over low heat till potato and cauliflower is cooked. discard bay leaves.season it with salt and garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve it with Indian flat bread (chapatti or paratha) or pita. Enjoy!

You may try the same recipe with chicken. replace cauliflower with bite sized raw chicken pieces (I prefer dark meat) and along with onion saute 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic and 1 chopped jalapeno (if you prefer extra heat). you call this alu-moorg:-) (alu= potato and moorg=chicken)
