Question: Those little vegetables that come with Chinese food that looks like corn on the cob? Is it a variety of corn and can you grow them from seeds and if so, where can I purchase them?

    I've always thought they were called baby corn.

    I used to work @ a chinese place.
    If I remember correctly...they aren't corn at all.
    not to mention that corn doesn't grow that small.
    Don't really know,
    But I do Know that they are NOT corn picked early.

    They are a special variety of corn called "baby corn" and you can buy them at a good nursery if you want to grow them at home.

    Chinese Baby Corn is a relatively new vegetable. Tender and sweet baby corns are often used in Chinese dishes and salads. Seeds are sown in spring and are cultivated like regular sweet corns. Many regular corn varieties have been used to grow baby corns, but often resulting in baby corns in relatively poor quality. Corn ears should be picked for vegetable use within 5 days when silking. If not harvested at this stage, corn ears will develop into full size regular corns.
