Influence of Spain to Australia?!

Question: what are some??

Answers: what are some??

Speaking as an Australian, very very little!

Spain was not amongst the major seafaring nations to investigate the Australian continent during the Age of Exploration. The Portugese probably investigated it first (in about 1606) but did not follow with colonization. Aprroximately 54 European ships visited Australian shores between 1606 and 1770. The Dutchman Abel Tasman was perhaps the most significant of these pre-Captain Cook explorers (and costal charters). For this reason Australia was originally known as New Holland

The British were the only ones to initiate comprehensive mapping of Australia by Captain James Cook in 1770 followed by colonization in 1788.

At no time since the British colonization of Australia, has the continent been settled by large numbers of Spaniards, and since there were no Spaniards before colonization, there has never been a reason for Spanish culture or political influence to take hold in Australia. Like all ethnic cuisines, Spanish foods certainly can be found, but Chinese (and other SE Asian), Indian, Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern and even Russian foods have a higher profile thanks to immigration from those regions.

(The name "Australia" is derived from the Latin title "terra australis incognita" meaning unknown southern land)

Im not sure I understand your question...I have been to both, and I had more fun in Australia. Spain has access yo Europe, but Oz has great people and kick *** beaches! Both are fun if you like to party. It all comes down to what you want to do!

From a cultural or culinary perspective, Spain has not had a huge influence on Australia. Some Spanish food is about it.

The reason for this is there was no Spanish colonial influence in Australia.

Spain was not a country that had immigrants wanting to leave it after ww2 which is when a good deal of different nationalities left Europe to go elsewhere. Those that could not afford the US or Canada had the good fortune to come here. My grandparents included.

There is a strong Spanish community here, comprising of not just Spanish but other Spanish speaking countries. Tapas and tapas bars are one thing that we tend to enjoy and appreciate. Sadly there is not enough of them.

Like Spain Australia has a similar climate as well as great beaches and life style. I can say this as I travelled through Spain and found myself basking in the sun in an amazing place called San Sebastian. A very laid back and welcoming place much like coastal Australia. (my opinion)

But as far as major cultural influences there have not been as much as say Asian in more recent years and Italian and Greek further back nor the initial influences of those that founded then enforced a penal colony. Which without the Australian royalty, as we call our penal forebares, Australia would more than likely have become a French Colony.
