I found a few different definitions for "chacales", which one are you looking for? Both are Mexican in origin.

In the states of Colima and Oaxaca, "chacales" is the name given to a variety of freshwater shrimp and prawns found under rocks and prepared in a spicy sauce or in a soup or broth.

OR

In Chihuahua, chacales are dried white corn kernels broken into little pieces, and prepared like a soup.
