in America it is usually General Tao's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Kung Pao (beef, chicken, shrimp)- I have ony seen dried whole chili peppers in that, Egg Foo Young, and they have these appetizers that are won-ton wrappers filled with crab and cream cheese (never saw that until I came to the Midwest from the West Coast, I doubt if they use cream cheese in China) or egg roll or Oyster Sauce Wings.

You get these dry, crunchy noodles to go with your Chow Mein.

And you always get a fortune cookie!!!

I don't see many dumplings in Australian Chinese takeaway nor do I see chicken feet both of which are favourites for locals in China.

Im from the UK and the Chinese food there is delicious...Now I live in Mexico and the Chinese food here is Gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They put chillis in everything...thats not Chinese!

Having had 'Chinese' food in the US, Japan, UK, France, Australia and China I must agree with you. However I would say the with Asian migration the food here is pretty good, especially when compared to the UK, the emergence of good dim sum and bbq shops for example.
There will always be a component of localisation and the further away from a major Chinese community the more the localisation

hi there, i'm australian and I disagree. You obviously haven't found the right restaurant!!
