What should I get at Pho?!
Answers: I hate gross stuff, I pretty much only eat chicken and stuff like that, i dont want to overdo it and be grossed out..any advice?
My local Pho place offers a vegetable Pho that I get all the time. Then I spice it up with the rooster sauce. But, if yours doesn't offer a veggie Pho, I'd just get plain old chicken. Most places have that. Just start experimenting with the add-ins: sprouts, rooster sauce (chili sauce), basil, cilantro, etc.
You can order it with Brisket & Egg noodles, the steak is good too then you can season it up with Fish Sauce Sugar, Rooster Sauce & Bean Sprouts.
I am with the first fellow only I add some beef balls and tendon, but if your looking for a mainstream dish try some thing called "Bahn", it is rice noodles with a stir fried beef/chicken or pork on top and it is dusted with chopped peanuts, Vietnamese spicing is relativley mild they let you determine the spiciness.
Alot of times it comes in a combo with a Vietnamese egg/spring roll, the noodles and stir fry and small amount of salad (lettuce, carrot shreddeds, bean sprouts and a slice or 2 of cucumber), and alot do a very nice fried rice dish with meat or chicken.
Here in Toronto Canada, I regularly go to different Vietnamese restaurants, my favs are in the Chinatown are of the city, be adventerous but try a variety before you make an firm decision, and Vietnamese food is not oil or greasy as much as some other Asian cuisines, it was the french influenece that did that, there to is an other idea, a Vietnamese Sub, a sandwich that travels....
Get no meat, or look for one with meats that you know what they are...
Beef slices - brisket, round, flank.
Some places do offer chicken
Although the tripe and tendon are good, it sounds like you'll want to avoid those.
Try a noodle soup with round steak also try the Vietnamese charcoal chicken sandwich.
rice noodle beef soup and add the extras it comes with. Yum!
Hi there,
Pho is delicious, I know it can gross some people out because it has a lot different parts of the cow in the soup. I suggest if you like beef, tell the server that you only want the well done meat. If you don't like beef, you can also get Chicken Pho.
At Pho Restaurants, they also have a lot different variety of Vietnamese dishes that are very tasty as well. I would recommend the Fresh Spring Rolls, or even the Fried Spring Rolls. The fillings are basically shrimp and vermicelli
Good Luck
