What is panettone?!
Answers: its an italian cake usually made around christmas
Italian cake!
Yum!
People usually say it is an Italian version for the american fruit cake, but it is much more than that! The flavor, texture and ingredients are different and there is a story behind its reciepe. My grandma, who is Italian, used to tell me this story. A guy named Antonio, who was a Italian chef, wanted to propose his gf..but she had this not very friendly dad. So he decided to create a reciepe specially for her dad, for he could like him better. He chose the most special and rich ingredients and made a bread. He named the bread Panetone, wich means Tone's Bread in Italian.
I dont know if this is story is true or not, or if the guy married the girl..LOL All I know is that Xmas is not xmas if I dont eat panetone!!!! Specially if it is made by my grandma!
Try it next xmas!!!! :)
Best wishes..
it's an italian cake usually served around christmas time
it's only lightly sweet and more "bready" than "cakey". It's sprinkeled with powdered sugar and has raisins in it.
It's an Italian sweet bread, usually with citron and raisins or currants. My Grandmother made it all the time and we would have it toasted in the morning with our milk with just a little coffee added. I make it all the time, it's so good.
It's a holiday - sort of - cake.
As mentioned by some others, it's an Italian bread-like cake with dried fruit. It makes a good alternative to normal bread for making English bread & butter pudding.
