Street vendors?!

Question: I am going to Greece on April 4th (I leave a week from this Friday!) for 9 days. I am going in a small group. I know that I will find street vendors, but what things am I sure to come upon? Which new foods should I try? I know I'll find some typical Mediterranean fare, but what else?

The first night in Athens we went to this kind of touristy hill and ate at one of the taverna. We ate on the patio and looked out over the city to the Agean with the sun setting and the light breeze blowing softly. And I thought "Wow, this is why I came to Greece." The next day we flew to Mikonos. Our hotel was above the town so we walked into town and picked a taverna whose patio was about twenty feet from the shore. The sea lapped softly at the sand, and as the sun was set the shoreline restaurants lit their strings of lights and served us fresh grilled fish.

These scenes were repeated with lovely variations throughout our stay.

For lunch eat Greek salads (fresh tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, olives and feta with olive oil - so fresh you'll see them delivering the vegetables in the morning) for snacks spanikopedia (pastry stuffed with spinach and feta), for dinner fresh fish, grilled lamb, lemon-egg soup, mousaka (and eggplant and lamb casserole), deep fried calamari. Enjoy.

Can't remember seeing many street vendors- like with carts and that. The only ones i saw when i was in athens were for souvenirs. The best are the hole-in-the-wall souvlakia and gyros places Get a couple chicken gyros with fries- OMG they are amazing. Another thing you should ask for- at cafes and that is "toast" there its not just toasted bread... its like a super greek grilled cheese sandwich. Yummo.
