What is a very simple Japanese side dish to make (from scratch)?!

Question: And that is not expensive (so preferrably no seafood) and wouldn't spoil overnight. It has to be any asian food but cannot be Chinese (stricly). If recipe or website is included it would be great! Thanks.

Cucumber Namasu. Super easy to make, and a traditional japanese side-dish.

Edamame...

They are soy beans steamed and done in salt. They're delicious.

sweet dango

Just some of my favorites...

Botamochi (a sticky rice dumpling with red bean paste, like a dessert)

Chimaki (a sweet rice cake wrapped around a bamboo leaf)

Soba( a Japanese noodle soup)

cubed tofu with chopped green onions topping it in a small bowl. Add soy sauce to taste. suppose chives could be added or substituted for the green onions but never tried it that way.

Beef and Broccoli with white rice is easy.... get any kind of beef (cheap) and a couple cups of cooked rice. Broccoli is cheap as well. You will need some soy sauce and one more asian sauce (i like sweet tai myself)

cook rice
cut the uncooked beef into thin strips
cut or buy the broccoli into bite sized crowns
get a saute pan or wok hot with 2 tbls of butter or subst.
cook broccoli in a microwaveable container for 2 minutes in the microwave to soften
add the broccoli in the pan (add onion or any other veg if you want)
cook for about a minute or two in saute pan then add 2 tbls of soy
add meat and stir for 2 more minutes then add rice and cook for another minute. add special sauce at the end if you want yummy

Definitly try Korean kimchi salad. It is AMAZING! I can't get enough of it. It's light, refreshing, sweet, crunchy, and mildy spicy all at the same time. Here's the recipe:
