Greek potatoes. What is the seasonning Greek restaurant use for the great taste of potatoes?!


Question: I just love Greek style potatoes. I'm not a good cook! and I have no idea what they use to make them taste so good. What is the recipe? What's your recipe?

Greek Style Potatoes

INGREDIENTS

1/3 cup olive oil
1 1/2 cups water
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
2 cubes chicken bouillon
ground black pepper to taste
6 potatoes, peeled and quartered

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a small bowl, mix olive oil, water, garlic, lemon juice, thyme, rosemary, bouillon cubes and pepper.
Arrange potatoes evenly in the bottom of a medium baking dish. Pour the olive oil mixture over the potatoes. Cover, and bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the preheated oven, turning occasionally, until tender but firm.

Greek Potatoes

Ingredients

5 large russet potatoes, chopped in rather large chunks
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 head garlic, chopped fine
1 tablespoon oregano(dry is fine)
olive oil(a good amount)
salt

Directions

1. Place all ingredients in corningware or other deep baking dish with cover and mix to coat.
2. Bake at 375 degrees, basting with oil frequently, until potatoes are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.

Patates Fournou: Roasted Lemon Garlic Potatoes

INGREDIENTS:

5 large potatoes (baking size)
3/4 cup of olive oil
2 1/2 cups of water
juice of 1 lemon
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
3/4 teaspoon of dried Greek oregano (rigani)
2 teaspoons of sea salt
freshly ground pepper
juice of 1/2 orange

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 480°F (250°C).

Peel the potatoes, cut in half lengthwise, and in half lengthwise again, into quarters. Rinse well and shake to remove excess water. Spread the potatoes out in an 11 X 14 inch (or equivalent) roasting pan. Toss the potatoes with the salt, pepper, oregano, garlic and olive oil (using hands works best), and sprinkle with lemon juice. Add the water to the pan (do not pour over the potatoes). Put on lowest rack in the oven, and roast at 480°F (250°C) until the water boils. Then reduce heat to 355°F (180°C) and cook for 1 hour. Drizzle the orange juice over the potatoes, and continue to cook another 30 minutes or until potatoes are soft and toasty looking.

Yield: 5-6 servings

Note:

If you cut the potatoes into smaller pieces, reduce cooking time. Check at 1 hour for doneness.

In a lot of stores they have a wonderful Greek seasoning called "Cavenders Greek seasoning"..its a mixture of many seasonings and is wonderful!!!!!

get some fresh sage and oregano and sprinkle these over the potatoes after you have covered them with good olive oil, this will do the trick

Greek style potatoes are amazing.I had them a few days ago with my Canadian friends and they loved them,here is what i use: Potatoes cut in wedges,use a deep pan,in a bowl add olive oil,lemon juice 1 tbsp prepared mustard,salt pepper and Lot's of garlic.Mix well together and pour over potatoes
continue mixing with your hangs ,add some water and bake for 45 min.(optional:you can use 2 tbsp of chicken Base)

Wow - none of above are true Greek style - the reason they taste so good is that potatoes are cooked along side meat and usually left to soak up the fats/oil etc from the meat. (not healthy but tasty).
Greeks use - loads of olive oil - plenty of salt - pepper and oregano (dried) on their potatoes.
