Question about Emerald Live, and garlic.?!

Question: I was watching Emerald's Live, you know, the cooking show. I noticed that everytime he added garlic to the dish the entire crowd went crazy. It was very funny to me that everyone in the crowd thought so highly of garlic. So my question is why in the world of cooking is garlic so kick ***?

This is an EMERIL thing, he has always been a big fan of garlic and encourages its use in large amounts. He consistently makes jokes on his show about garlic (like rubbing it on his wrists & behind his ears like cologne...) So his fans go a little nuts when he adds the garlic. He's part chef & part showman, people either love Chef Emeril Lagasse or hate him.

Personally, I think he helped make the Food Network what it is today. He really played he huge role in elevating American cuisine from meat & potatoes to something that is considered world class & gourmet. Anyway, I heard the Food Network cancelled his Emeril Live show!

Oh, he also promotes pork fat alot. His famous "pork fat rules" slogan is famous among his fans.

it depends ,, weather some people like it or will now ,,, as u see in indian as well in any kind of cooking garlic plays a very important role ,,,,

I think its more of a response to Emeril's antics. Appearently, if you say "BAM" when you add an ingredient to a dish it makes people clap for you.

Maybe that applause was given by a bunch of gahhlic lovers. I noticed that too. Its like someone is holding up a cue card , or something, one day I want to be in the audience, then I guess I'll find out.

the audience is prompted by cue cards to applaud at predetermined times.

There are a couple things going on...
1. The producers of the show "pump up" the audience and que the audience to cheer.

2. Also, garlic, wine, sugar, bacon and pork fat, among other things on the show, are decadent and adds a lot of flavor to food so the audience is cheering for the added flavor.

Keep in mind... that most of the people in the audience (and across the US) don't use those ingredients as much so for them it's living on the edge... Believe it or not... garlic is not really used that much in salt and pepper Middle-America.

A little is better... add a little more (woo.. pumping it up)... add a lot more (wow! living dangerously here... whooo hooo!!!!)
