To all rice-eaters of the United States!?!

Question: There is something wrong with the U.S. rice imports! Prices have been hiking from $18.00 two days ago to like $36.00 today! I know that it involves a lot of factors, but how are the professed rice eaters of the United States going to cope with the rice shortage, other than hoard bags upon bags of rice that are still in stock with ever growing prices!? Lot of the rice used in the Asian restaurants and in asian homes are imported from Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand among other countries. Since imports are down, how will this affect the Asian-American diet and food prices in Asian restaurants?

Not to worry, then. Most of the rice sold even in Asian stores here in the US were produced here. The US is the second largest rice producer in the world (3rd largest consumer). Botan and Kohuko and other brands are produced in California. Now, if THEY have gone up, too, then we're all in trouble for rice. Thanks a lot, W.

thats a good point, but big companies has their contract with their suppliers...they buy in bulk and in certain amount/price...

i.e. airlines company pre-purchase gas to shell in certain amount, no matter how much gas price goes up and sky rocket, airline companies pays fixed amount for a certain period stated in the contract same as manufacturers and merchadisers who imports and exports any kind of merchandise all over the world

one thing for sure is we'll try to eat more noodles, lol.

Most of the rice eaten in the US is grown in Arkansas, silly goose!

I was led to believe California was a majior Rice Producer and exported tons.???
(Is there a marketing GAME at hand??)
Local foods exported.. and imported products are OUR only choice..??

You point out the best example of our Fair Market Pricing..
This is a computerized market they have no restrictions on price fixing or gouging..
There is NO responsibility for the grocery store's to publicize their windfall profits..
I believe the tax deductions for spoilage out weighs reducing prices..
When will WE start to demand accountability..
40 years ago the milk industry dumped thousands gallons in order to in order to raise the price..Today it is more than gasoline $3.68,,, Milk $4.89±...

What Now >>??? our "only " choice is Not Buy...
