How to order indian vegetarian food?!

Question: Hi,

I love to try new food once in a while. Today, I went into an indian vegetarian fast food but I don't know how to order because all the names of the food are foreign to me. Can anyone provide tips/advise what food to order the next time I come into the fastfood?

You order Indian bread - Roti/nan/paratha/Kulcha/chapati with or without butter. All these are variety of flat breads made with wheat flour (plain or fine) roasted in clay oven (Tandoor) or Pan. Paratha's are also available in stuffed form where different stuffing is added before rolling the dough.
There is another kind of flat bread that is deep fried called 'PURI'.
With this you order dry or curry dishes made with assorted vegetables. Chose vegetable as per your liking. You may order more than one to eat at the same meals.
Chose from rice dishes - Biryani's/Pulav's, plain rice or Cumin fried rice (Jeera rice)
Select a Dal (lentile) dish to go with rice.
Select a Raita (Yogurt dish) to go with entire meal as a dish to temper down spicy heat.
Select Papads if you like them with your meal. These are flat crisps fried or roasted.
You may also select Samasa (Veg. Triangle) or Onion Bajjia's as starters.
Select Indian desserts only if you like them.(Usually very sweet and syrupy)
Have yogurt drink 'Lassi' only if you are having meal in day time -noon and not night.

The good thing about a place like that is you'll probably like everything!! I've never eaten an Indian vegetarian dish I didn't like.

Try Dishes with Paneer (this is indian cheese based vegitarian dishes) also dishes under the "Pakwaan" menu are all vegitarian based

You must order a plain Roti, naan etc, plain flat bread
or stuffed paratha with potato, panner etc
and/or any rice dish
add to this order a dry /fried item and a gravy item
This would make a indian meal
Hope you enjoy your indian meal better next time.

It honestly depends on your taste... if worse comes to worse, ask someone who is serving you who knows what they're talking about and can easily translate the dishes for you.

But try a bit of everything! The only thing you should be careful of is the chilli content because it sometimes hits you and next thing you know, your eyes are watering.

But Indian vegetarian food is good.

I'd be wary of some meat dishes (I'm a bit... queasy with hygiene in Indian places) but you should be right with the vegetarian stuff!

It depends what you like.
here a few dishes.

Alu gobi- potatoes and cauliflower
saag paneer- spinich and indian chees
saag alu - spinich and potatoes
Dal - lentals
bhindi bhaji- okras
