I do not know where you live but I can give you a recipie!. Most of the prepared stuff in the store is not very good in my experience!. I have Greek friends who enjoy this!.
Tzatziki Sauce- Greek Cucumber and Yogurt Sauce
3 containers of Greek Whole milk yogurt - I prefer Fage brand yogurt if available!.
1 large cucumber peeled, seeded and grated coarsely
3 cloves minced garlic, use less if you are not extremely fond of garlic
1 1/2 tbsp!. white vinegar
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp!. chopped fresh dill
Open yogurt containers and remove parchment from the top of the yogurt!. Place yogurt in a large mixing bowl!. Wash and peel cucumbers, cut them in half and use a spoon or mellon baller to scrape out the seeds and discard them!. Grate cucumbers manually into a separate bowl or use a food processor (medium coarse)!. Take cucumbers and drain well, squeezing out excess water with your hands!. Add this to the bowl with the yogurt!. Add garlic, vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper and dill to yogurt and mix well!. Serve with toasted pita, pita chips, toast or crackers!. May also use as a condiment to souvlaki or gyros!.
Makes about 3 cups!. Keep chilled!. Tastes better if made a few hours in advance and allowed to develop its flavor!.
Note if unable to find Greek yogurt take about 24 oz of whole milk yogurt and place in cheese cloth lined sieve over a bowl for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator!.
Greek yogurt is strained and tangy so it will be very thick out of the package!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
