It's called "deghi mirch!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Paprika is a European spice and not used in India!. It has a sweet smoky flavor!. Because paprika is not used in Indian cooking, there is no proper word and it is simply called paprika!.

Indians use red chili powder made from very potent dried red Indian chilies, this is known as "lal mirchi powder"!.

Kashmiri chilies are NOT paprika, they are a larger variety of chilies found in the Kashmir valley that are probably the best substitute for paprika!. They are known as "degh mirchi" and when ground into a powder, it is "degh mirchi powder"!.

Kashmiri chilies also have a sweeter smoky flavor when compared to Indian dried red chilies, that's why they make a great substitute!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
