I've been ask to make a Czech dish, what is your favorite?!
I've been invited to a potluck where each person will brink a different dish from a European country!. I was asked to do the Czech Republic, as I lived there!. But sadly I never cooked there :( and lived on pub food!.
Can someone suggest a nice dish that I can look up a recipe for that will be suitable for a party of upscale foodie-types!?
My own searches are not turning much up!.
Many thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've always liked kolache, a type of pastry!. My mother (who was from Vienna, where the cuisine is a blend of German, Hungarian, Czech, and Jewish) used to make them with either apricot or poppy seed filling!. I found a good simple recipe here: http://www!.angelfire!.com/tx5/texasczech/!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
pork, sauer cabbage and dumplings!.
or replace the pork with fried duck or goose!. /in case of poultry, use the red sauer cabbage rather than the white one /it looks better/!.
off the sweet dishes, i support the kolace, too - round shaped "cakes" with the various filling - with poppy, with uqark, or with marmelade!.
serve Czech beer -either Czechwar /if you're living in the US/, Budwar budweiser, or Pilsner!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I second the kolache!. They are not too difficult to make even if you're not a pro-baker, and they are delicious!. If you need to make something savory, you can find versions with ham or cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am czech!! I love smazeny syr and knedliky with svickova sauce!. also ovocny knedliky are good, especially with blueberries or strawberries!. There are a lot of dishes that use houby (mushrooms) too!. Including soup and sauce for pasta!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
