the tomato is originally from the New World, but after going to Europe new clones were developed!. The roma tomato that is commonly used in tomato paste is a good example!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

From Wiki it appears that tomatoes did not originate in Italy in any way, shape or form!. That is not to say that someone in Italy hasn't done a hybrid!.
