If you've never eaten Greek before I suggest starting out with a Greek banquet!.This usually consists of a number of courses!.You will start with pita bread(which is like lebanese flat bread) and Greek dips(usually, cucumber dip,egg plant dip, fish row dip, spicy capsicum dip);then there's saganaki which is fried cheese;loukanika which is greek sausage;you may even get some marinated capiscum in olive oil;grilled or marinated octopus;the mains are usually grilled lamb cutlets;souvlaki which are skewers of grilled meat & chicken together with grilled fish, calamari & prawns - very similar to a BBQ!.For desserts there are very sweet small cakes based filled with honey, walnuts or custard & a sweet that's like turkish delight!.Coffee will follow!.That's the usual banquet style menu but each of these things can be ordered separately!.If you go to a restaurant that also does traditional dishes you may find moussaka or pasticio on the menu which is like layered lasagna with vegetables and baked pasta respectively!.You may also find papoutsakia which is stuffed eggplant & yemista which are tomatoes and capsicum stuffed with rice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Okay!.!.hummus!.is not a Greek food it is Palestinian in origin!. Greek food is sagnaki, which is flaming cheese, dolmas which are stuffed grape leaves, usually in a bechemel sauce which differs the recipe from middle eastern grape leaves which do not contain the bechemel sauce!. Greek food is great!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hummas (a ground chickpea dip)
lamb
chicken schwarma----vertically raosted chicken with spices (not exactly sure of them all--oregano, mint, cilantro, lemon, cayenne, paprika, garlic)
kibbe----cracked wheat and ground meat fried
