Do hard taco shells and tostados exist in Mexico other than imported?!

Question: Do hard taco shells and tostados exist in Mexico other than imported!?
Answers:
I live down in the center of Mexico, Mexico City and here you can buy tostadas (not tostados) in packages!. They come either completely flat or wavy shaped!. You eat them with a spread of refried beans, then shredded chicken, sour cream, shredded lettuce, grated white panela or crumbled cotija cheese topped with green sauce!. They are delicious! In Acapulco and other coastal towns they serve tostadas of shrimp, crab and other seafood that are simply wonderful!.

But taco shells are completely alien to this part of the country, there aren't even imported ones, you won't find them anywhere, not in Wal-Mart, Sam's Club or Price Club, nowhere!. For a start no Mexican would recognize an American taco as a "taco!." Tacos are made with soft tortillas only!. Anything served in an American style hard "taco" shell would always be called a "tostada" not a "taco!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you mean the exact same tostadas used in Taco Bell tacos (and no, mexican tacos have nothing to do with Taco Bell tacos), not exactly!. Commercial tostadas are always flat, not bent!.

Mexicans generally use them to eat with pozole!. I like to put sour cream on them!. Sadly I can't enjoy them because I have braces!. >_<

Some supermarkets even sell premade huaraches and sopes but making them yourself always tastes better if you have one of those machines to flatten tortilla masa!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Okay, here is the deal!. They usually just dip the corn tortillas in hot oil in Mexico and do not try to fry them to hard but instead just soften them a little and warm them quickly!. Taco shells like the ones that come in taco kits in US stores are an abomination! LOL They really are pretty gross if you've had the real stuff!. But they sort of have similar ingredients!. Tostadas on the other hand do exist and are great for a light meal or snack!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They eat mostly soft freshly made corn style!.

Healthy as all get out!. ;-)

Then they eat taco chips out of the same dough and those are good too!.

I like the hard ones here with lots of juice, spices and onions from the meat!.

The soft ones here are from a package!. Not as good as having La Madre make them in Mexico!Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes they do make tacos and tostadas in mexico i know this because i live near the border and i have been to mexico!.!. tostadas arent normally eaten with posole you normally eat tortillas with that!.!. they do make tacos although they may be different than your taco bell tacos they do make them!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They really don't, worst misconception ever!. When we went to Costa Rica my american friends were asking were all the tacos and mexican type food was!. I felt so stupid hanging out with such uneducated people!. I wish more americans knew geography and that not all spanish looking people are mexican!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

strange question!.!.!.!!
Expand your mind - - -allow yourself to visit a Mexican family in your mind!.!.
Momma and her daughters make up the dough for (FLAT BREAD) what ever its called!.!.
OOOPS girl forgot to wrap some up and they dried out over night TsK Tsk,,
You know they will spread refried beens and sauce on them to soften some!.!.chop them up to make chips and dip
THEY do not waste food!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, they are %100 American!. If you go to Mexico you will not find tacos stalls or any place that sells tacos just like you cannot find American Chineese food in China!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. We take tortillas, fill them and fry them in fresh oil or lard!. I've seen the taco kits in the big supermarkets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
