Simple, traditional Japanese meals or snacks?!

Question: Simple, traditional Japanese meals or snacks!?
My boyfriend will be home on leave in a week or so and I'd like to mimick a meal like his grandma would make!. Since she's from Japan, he's spoiled on traditional foods and hasn't had any since he went into the military!.

Any ideas!? :)
He's especially fond of rice, seaweed, and raw salmon!. But I'm going to go ahead and cook any fish I get!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nori

You can buy nori in packages ready to eat!. they come in small strips about two inches wide!. Look for "seasoned seaweed"

For a nice touch, use real chop sticks, not the throw away kind and Japanese dishware!. Remember to put the rice into the chawans or rice bowls!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sushi and sashimi would go over very well, especially if you dress like a giesha! If you can't do all that, there's sushi plate sets complete with saki decanter and little cups!. also, bento boxes would be great for picnics or just to munch on in front of the tv!. Sushi rice is very easy to make, and raw salmon is ok, but try cold smoked salmon!.
Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com
