First of all you have to have the right ingredients, the main one being King's Hawaiian Sweet Bread!. There are two bakeries, one on King Street on Oahu, and another in Torrance, California!. I looked at a few websites that sell Hawaiian food on line, but did not see one that sold the bread, just the sweet rolls!. Perhaps if you contact King's Bakery, you can purchase the bread from them!. Following is the Original Recipe and their website!.
Original Recipe French Toast
Ingredients
4 (1-inch) thick slices King's Hawaiian Bread
4 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp!. vanilla
1/4 tsp!. cinnamon
Butter or oil for frying
Maple syrup
Preparation
Slice bread crosswise so that each slice is about 1-inch thick!. Cut larger slices into halves or thirds, if desired!. Set aside!.
In a shallow mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon!.
Quickly dip slices (do not soak) in egg mixture and cook until golden brown on both sides!.
Keep egg mixture stirred and spices well blended!.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup!.
Makes 4 servings!.
