Why are people so squeamish about fruitcake?!
As an Italian, I love fruitcake!. It is a heavenly dessert for me!. But everywhere I go, I constantly hear how people hate fruitcake!. A poll showed that 50% of Americans claim fruitcake as their most dreaded Christmas gift!. People say the candied fruit looks and tastes like rubber!. They say the raisins look like mouse turds!.
I find that all these fruitcake haters have never actually tried it!. They joke about passing it on to relatives they don't like!. I need to hear from some serious fruitcake lovers out there!. Please tell me I am not alone!. Am I the only person on Earth who loves fruitcake!? Whether you love fruitcake or not, tell me why!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're not alone! I also love fruitcake!. The mix of fruit flavours, held together with some lovely cake!. Unfortunately there is some cheap, bad stuff out there, and that's the stuff that often gets given as gifts!. I think it's also a thoughtless, last minute gift, ie "Uh oh, we forgot to get a gift for the Johnson's!. Quick, grab a fruitcake!"

It's all because Americans pass down their hatred of fruitcake from generation to generation originating from that one bad experience!. Most people have never tried fruitcake!. I have, and while I don't like the dark fruitcake very much, the 'white fruitcake' with the pinapple and macadamia nuts is very good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My wife and I bake fruitcakes around September, with lots and lots of candied dried fruit in them!. Then we wrap them in gauze, saturate them with brandy or dark rum, and put them in closed containers in the wine cellar until Christmas!. We eat some and make presents of the rest!. No one has ever complained about mouse turds!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Why indeed!. Fruitcakes contain no meat whatsoever!. I love fruitcakes with cups of steaming hot tea!. A sweet treat for me anytime of the year!. Hey I actually look for them at Starbucks or any other cafeterias - seems like the perfect afternoon snack!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don′t have passion for marzipan cake but I don′t find it repulsive either!. Marzipan cake is my favourite, also chocolate cake may do well sometimes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
