I think BBQs are very Australian!. Although the country is cosmopolitan, I tend to view Australia as "white" (without an iota of racist sentiment here); as such the spread of Australian fare mainly derives from traditional cuisine back in the old country (wherever in UK, Europe)!.
The newer generation of clever Aussie chefs are immensely talented in fusing Asian flavours, ingredients and cooking styles to come up with heavenly dishes fit for the gods!. Colours, textures, appearances, tastes are simply wonderful!.
But it is the mainstays of traditional Australia that I fall back on and love!. The food is typically under seasoned (except for excessive salt)!. Uninspiring meat pies, sausage rolls, and Sunday roasts are alright by me!. To balance, I'd have the modern fresh salad presented with a creative flair!. Traditional and modern= yin yang!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've never been, but have watched a number of TV shows featuring restaurants and chefs in Australia!. The cuisine seems international, with a strong influence by Asian countries!. I would assume they still hang on to few traditional British dishes but, fortunately, not many!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
