Why do the Japanese put Mayonnaise on a lot of food?!

Question: Why do the Japanese put Mayonnaise on a lot of food!?
Is it different from American Mayo, or what!? Because I've been watching a lot of video recipes, and they put it on 4 of the 6 food items they made!Www@FoodAQ@Com
