If the Red Indians still exist, "Terminated by immigrants to America" Then, They would tell you!.
The concept of "traditional dish" does not apply for This collection of ethnic groups (As the case of USA), Every group has it's own Traditional dish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in the US and I'm totally obsessed with the UK!. :)
Apple pie is very American!.!.!. but I think of a national dish as being what immediately comes to mind when you're thinking of a country's cuisine!. Like I would say Scotland's national dish was haggis, Russia reminds me of borscht, and Britain makes me think of shepard's pie or the "traditional English breakfast"!. It's all rather a kind of stereotype, really!.
I would have to say the hamburger/cheeseburger is definately the stereotype of America!.!.!. at least it was where I lived overseas!. And the all the new MacDonalds restaurants across the globe don't really do anything to change that image!. :)
So if you're obsessed with the good ole' USA you'd jolly well better learn to enjoy a good cheeseburger!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hmm, I'd have to agree with everyone else here!. Burgers and fries!. And ice cream, like milkshakes and malts!.
But then again, all-american food could pretty much be any food with an American city's name in it, i!.e!. the Philly Cheesesteak, Boston Cream Pie, New England Clam Chowder!.
And even though nobody really thinks about this, and it's not really a "dish", Americans consume a LOT of chocolate!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I say America has no national dish!. Most American foods have came from another country and have been modified to fit the taste buds of most Americans!. Most ppol say the Hamburger is the national dish, but it originated in Hamburg, Germany!. So America has no national food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The burger I should think - it's a snack, a meal!.!.!. served in a variety of ways from Hard Rock's humongous cover-the-plate proportion to the familiar Macs even trendy haute cuisine "Gucci burger" (downsized version with wagyu beef, truffles, brie cheese et al)!. Can't see all these happening to "hot-dogs" although they are hard-to-beat sometimes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well, hamburgers, chowders, Mac and cheese, that sort of stuff!.
Any type of roast is 100% British!.
And most pies including Apple pie is infact British!.
Americans eat German food a lot, frankfreuters, (hot dog)!.!.!. derived from Germany!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
