Answers:
All over the US they do it differently!. I am from Tennessee but I live in Maine now!. The Chinese food here in Maine is great, but when I went back to Tennessee, I thought it was awful!.

In Washington, they tend to enjoy a healthier diet than us Southerners like, hence the mushrooms, peppers, etc!. instead of meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, Virginnia cannot set the standards for Chinese Cuisine!. Traditionally, the chinese will have an egg with rice, simply because of the frugal cost of a meal!. Apparently the authencity of the dishes are compromised to meet the taste palette of this country!. For an authentic Chinese food experience in this country, please venture to a Chinatown close to you, San Francisco, L!.A!., Chicago or the best of all, NYC!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chinese food varies greatly throughout the different regions of the US!. When I lived on the west coast, I found the food in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle to be delicious and seemingly more authentic than Chinese I have eaten in other parts of the country!. Now that I'm living back in the midwest - I rarely eat it anymore!. All the restaurants around my area seem really bland and sickeningly sweet compared to what I got used to out west!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe u should go to different resturants!. Maybe the resturant you went is not real chinese food!. Sometimes they just have something chinese on the menu and they call it a chinese resturant!. try other resturants!. Go to the chinese mall( near chinese markets)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe the people who are cooking the food have no knowledge of what they are doing!. Maybe the don't know how to cook it and they are not even Chinese!.

Or they cook their mom's home made recipes!!ha ha ha!!so much fro traditionWww@FoodAQ@Com

the chinese food i had when i lived in new york and connecticut was good!. we moved to california and it was okay!. it really depends on the chef!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah, but it's not China! It depends on the local cook!.
You're getting americanized versions of chinese food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ha ha ha!. Yes, we are all in the same country, but then, it isn't China, is it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Come on down to Portland!. Go to Wong's King on 84th and Division!. If you still aren't satisfied, I don't think it's chinese food you've been eating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

quality jus differs

Differnt ppl like diffrnt tngs

or they jus suck at cookingWww@FoodAQ@Com

it all depends on who the chef is!Www@FoodAQ@Com

!.!.!.you're used to eating chinese food very "americanized"!. I really hate it when they do this but the same goes when you eat american food in China, it's "chineseified" heh!.

I personally cannot stand the way that fried rice is made anywhere in the states as it's too different from the way it's really made!. I've only found a few places in San Fran and Chicago that made it like in our province!. However, true fried rice is white rice that has been cooked, then fried in a pan with usually sesame oil, eggs, green onions, salt, and occasionally bbq pork (as well as a tiny bit of soya)!. Perhaps you should get a recipe you like and make it yourself, I think they most likely used brown rice at your restaurants in Virginia (americans tend to like brown rice, so they switch it)!.

As far as the wonton soup goes, in reality that's just a simple label to put on a soup dish that can be prepared 10,000 ways!. Wontons themselves are just additives like mushrooms it's the soup broth that is more important as if cooked right will hold all of the vitamins that you need and what makes this soup so important!.

I also think that the way the soup and rice is prepared will differ depending on where the chinese are from at the restaurant you go to, different provines make specific dishes a different way!. Food is very important in China and is also a prideful thing!.

I wouldn't be so quick to be discouraged though just remember that the way you were eating it isn't even the right way it's prepared anyhow!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
