Indian Food / Whats this green stuff?!

Question: Indian Food / Whats this green stuff!?
I recently ate indian food for the first time and loved it, its was a buffet, and it was damn good!. I decided to order take out today and get a littlew more adventurous!. I got a veggie combo with

-Veggie Samosas (they were good)
- Veggie Biryani (also good)
- Veggie Curry (spicy but good)
- Naan

Now I could make out what everything was except for this little ( think the size of the container the chinese restaurant gives you for sweet sour sauce) tub of green stuff!.

It looked very much like pureed spinach!. It was spicy like the curry, and tasted like spinach!. It was very oily!.

Was it spinach!? What was I supposed to do with it!? Someone help me!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Most likely, it is Makhani Palak Saag!. Spinach is boiled grouned cooked with spices, Ghee (Clarified butter), Makhan (Butter), Malai (Cream)!.
Punjabi restauarnt keep a lot of Makhani Palak on hand to create Palak Paneer, Matar Palak!., or just as Makhni Palak Saag!.
May be the reastaurant is giving it out as a replacement for Chutney or to Promote their Spinach Dishes!.
Makhani Palak is not just a cheap give away!.!. They must have a reason, that I can not understandWww@FoodAQ@Com

first answer is correct and they also commonly have tamarind chutney that helps cool some of the heat of dishes, especially good with samosa!. Tamarind chutney is so good!
I also often go for the veggie meal if I don't get a buffet!. You get a lot of good food for the money and you don't have to order all these different and often expensive dishes to get a balanced meal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it is a type of chutney!.!.!. made of cilantro, herbs and it could have spinach!.!.!.

it is really good and is meant to be eaten as a condiment with your food!.!.!.!. always try sauces first when eating Indian food!.!.!. some are strong!.!.!.

next time, you can also ask what is in the sauce!.!.!. and they will gladly tell you :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

It can be fenugreek (methi)!.U r right it was not chutney because chutney never served warm its always at room temperature & on chutney we never put cream!.

For more u can ask the rest!. what is this green stuff they are serving in Indian buffet!.They will tell u what it is!.

I think it was ' Green Chutney', made by using cilantro, mint, green chillies, lime etc!.
It could have been warm because it was packed along with other warm ingredients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

itmust have been creame spinach the gave u to eat with naan if it was green oily spicy taste like spinach then i am pretty sure it is creamed spinach chutney taste strong like mint i makeit thats why i knowWww@FoodAQ@Com

It may have possibly been raita (yogurt) with cilantro, mint or even spinach!. Raita is usually served cold but in a buffet situation, it may have been room temp or warmer (not ideal)!. It's also not supposed to be oily!.

If it was not a creamy yogurt consistency and you are certain it wasnt a chutney, then it could have been a palak or saag (spinach) curry!. Palak paneer is a very common dish at almost any Indian buffet, but often times the paneer is lacking!. They usually dont add enough paneer pieces or more than likely, people scoop them out and take them!. Paneer is Indian cheese, that's cubed, pan-fried and then added to the pureed spinach!.
