Like what types of foods are GermanWww@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Pretzels,Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Knoedel, Spaetzle, a bunch of meat and sausages!.
I'm German and I don't really like the cuisine- unless my Oma makes them! That woman can cook!!
It's an accustomed taste and few restaurants can make it work!.
Our bread is really good there- dark and crunchy!. Real stuff!. Not processed white toast!. There are thousands of bakeries- no bread tastes the same and there are fewer chains, so you get a lot of variety!. The sweets are good too, especially the cakes and chocolate!.
German food generally has less fat and sugar than American foods!. If you're American, you might miss the flavor and find food there bland!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I found the Germans to be utter gastronoms!. They love food, and lot's of it!. Very suspicious of genetic engineering, microwaves-that sort of thing!. They're quite sophisticated: the Alois Dalmayr Emporium in Munich is something to see!. They live for eating out!.
However, essential German cooking, although substantial, has a strong emphasis on meat and sauce accompanied by a starch!. Typcial would be sausages (wursts) with kn?del (when I saw my first one, I thought somebody's tennis ball landed in my plate it was so big and round) or sp?tzle or any of the other hundred types of dumplings that they are devoted to!. Salads and veggies in the American sense aren't really the norm!.
Although they prefer bland food, like many Americans of a certain age,
you'll find "sweet and sour" quite often!. Not the Chinese way, though, but in a uniquely German way (German vinegar "essig"-milder and less acid-mixed with just enough sugar)!. Their baking literal sets the standard and shames France 10x!.
Excellent cooks, and so are the Austrians next door, who arguably take Teutonic cooking even further!.
Nadine is right: it's very hard to replicate delicious German dining outside of the Federal Republic!. Something is always lost!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
