Why does Chinese takeaway make people feel sick?!

Question: Why does Chinese takeaway make people feel sick!?
Is it the high fat content, or excess salt, or something else altogether!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Your diet has a lot to do with it!. I'll come back to this!.

Chinese take-out is American food; a product of the good ole' melting pot!. Comparing Chinese take-out to authentic Chinese cuisine is like comparing American pizza to authentic pizza!. American pizza uses a lot more cheese and meats plus the dough often has a lot of oil!. Chinese take-out uses a lot of of stuff not common in authentic Chinese cooking!. For example, rather than white rice, most people order chow mein or fried rice with their food, adding another greasy element!.

A lot of the dishes common in Chinese take-out were developed during the gold rush by Chinese immigrants!. There weren't many women around at the time so the Chinese provided "feminine" services such as cooking, laundry, and prostitution!. These poor prospectors weren't going to get the highest quality cuisine and modern Chinese fast food reflects that!. This is similar to how soul food is a product of the slavery era and has some unhealthy elements, which is reflected to some extent by modern "southern" fast food chains such as KFC and Popeyes!.

So you have an already unhealthy variation of Chinese cuisine (one initially developed to feed poor prospectors) and you take it and apply the standards of the American fast-food industry (which is making America the most obese nation in the world)!. You're bound to have a fairly unhealthy cuisine!.

Getting back to my first point, your diet has a lot to do with if take-out will make you sick or not!. There's a scene in Super Size Me when Morgan Spurlock, who is accustomed to his vegan-chef girlfriend's cooking eats his first McDonald's meal and throws up!. He's an extreme example since he was used to such healthy foods that a little bit of McDonald's was enough to set him off!. In many cases, Chinese take-out is greasier than McDonalds and served in bigger portions, but a lot of people don't associated it with fast food and over indulge!. I've known people on diets who avoid McDonalds, but keep going to Panda Express!. Plus Chinese food places don't have movies like Super Size Me, those Subway commercials, and idiotic "you made my child fat" lawsuits to worry about so they don't have to really make any effort to be healthier!. So if you usually eat healthy and get take-out, you're in for one of the less healthy forms of cuisine!.

That isn't to say you can't occasionally indulge a little!. My friend who teaches English in China always mentions that the thing he misses most is the Chinese take-out place by our house!. To him, Chinese take-out is a taste of America!. Even though I've started to eat healthier, I still have take-out once in a while!. The place near my house offers fairly healthy items (grilled chicken, vegetable stir fry, etc!.)!. also, most places will let you get white rice instead of fried rice or chow mein (Panda Express has white rice)!. Usually they have to go back and get it!. This actually cuts down on the grease a lot and I feel it tastes better as it makes it less salty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
