To sushi!
Start out with ingredients you are familiar with and work your way up from there!. You may want to begin with a cooked roll and once your adventurous side comes through maybe try some of the raw variations!.
Make sure the sushi place you are going to is known for their fresh ingredients!. This can make or break your first experience!.
DO: Eat the sushi as it is prepared, with the sauces and trimmings the chef lays out on the plate!.
DON'T: Drown the sushi in soy sauce or wasabi (green paste similar to horseradish in taste), as this will mask the unique taste of each piece!.
DO: Ask the chef for suggestions based on your tastes!. If the chef is not available, ask a waiter/waitress!.
DON'T: Keep any questions to yourself! You may end up with unexpected and unwanted surprises!.
The most important rule to remember: Have fun!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Always do sushi it is a taste sensation!. Just remember if you try and you like it is not a cheap indulgence!. Try Sashimi of cross tuna and salmon, can't go wrong with California rolls no raw fish with these ones,
Always make sure you have lots of wasabi japanese horseradish paste, soy sauce, and pickled ginger!. If you like fish and seafood and your into trying new foods check it out you will not be dissapointed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many people are under the impression that the word "sushi "itself means "raw fish!." This is an inaccuracy!. "Sushi" means "sweet, vinagered rice," referring to the process of making the rice used in the rolls!. "Sashimi" is "raw fish!."
But as for how to start eating it, I agree with everyone who has said to not buy from a grocery store for your first time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For a beginner, I would stay away from anything that is raw and wouldn't start with a California roll (kinda boring, but okay)!.
Sit at the sushi bar and talk to your chef!. Tell him/her you have never had sushi before and ask them to make something for you that doesn't have anything raw in it!. They can make you something sweet, spicy or whatever you like!.
If you see any ingredients that you like (like shrimp tempura, imitation crab meat, teriyaki chicken, cream cheese, cucumbers, jalapenos etc!.) ask your chef to make a sushi roll out of things you really like!. They are always glad to do it!. And they have plenty of yummy sauces to put on the rolls too!.
Enjoy!

Some menus list items as "challenging," Stay away from those in the beginning!. I recommend starting with tuna or yellowtail at first!. You can progress to more challenging selections on subsequent visits!. The best idea is to find a knowledgeable friend, who can go with you and guide you regarding taste and texture!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Sushi is divine, but I wouldn't buy it from a grocery store for your 'first time'!. I would start with simple things like crab rolls, tootsie maki, shrimp tempura!.
I just took two of my co-workers out for sushi for their first time yesterday!. Neither of them do 'raw', but they still enjoyed california rolls and shrimp tempura!. Me, I had the spicy tuna (raw)!. Divinity!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The first time you have sushi, go to a good sushi bar for starters and don't order anythign with eel!. Your best bet would be to try something with tuna first!.
I would suggest not getting a California roll because that is so far from actual sushi!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't buy the pre packed stuff as it's no where near as good as fresh sushi!. If you want to play it safe you could try veggie sushi first!. It's an acquired taste!. I find it quite bland but then I'm limited in what I can have as I'm allergic to a lot of seafood!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Start with vegetable sushi first to get used to it!. Then go for your favorite fish and be careful with the wasabi if you aren't used to spicy/fiery foods!. Have fun!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
