Almost all sushi bars (or chefs) like to make up their own creations!. Take a look at their specialty menu!. A lot of bars in Cali like to have some take on the California roll!. When I was visiting New Mexico, a sushi bar had a Green Chili roll, a nod to the famous green chili of the state!. You can even ask the chef to prepare you something unique!. I always recommend sitting at the bar so that you can actually talk to the chef and find out what is best that day!.

Happy eating!Www@FoodAQ@Com

spider maki!!!!!! there is deep fried crab in the middle
i love almost all sushi as long is it is good quality!. But spider rolls and Unagi are good for beginners than probably tuna and salmon!. California rolls are only good if there is real crab meat in them, but most places only serve california rolls made from Surimi(imitation crab)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Salmon is a good place to start with raw sushi as it is mild, salmon and avocado rolls are amazing- ask for smaller salmon and bigger avocado the first time and work your way up to bigger salmon!. Another good pair with salmon is Mango- if they have a roll that combines both, try that!. And don't be shy- sushi chefs will make what YOU want, regardless if it is on the menu!.

If you just are not ready for raw- shrimp tempura rolls are really good- a boston roll has shrimp tempura, lettuce and mayo- sort of like a fried shrimp salad wrapped in rice!.

Enjoy!

I don't like any sushi with the name of an American city or state!. I feel like a sellout even looking at those things on the menu!. I don't dig on squid or eel, either!.

The best sushi I've had was a plate of crab, blue fin tuna, and octopus!. If you can get good octopus, it's sweet and only slightly chewy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I like nigri sushi with sashimi:
yellowtail, salmon, toro (tuna belly! a must try for it's rich taste!), maguro (tuna), sea bream, sardine, mackerel etc!.!.

Cucumber maki-sushi (those wrapped in seaweed) is a cheaper but still delicious option!.

Californian rolls, though not truly Japanese, are also tasty! (:

caterpillar roll - generally includes avocado, unagi, kani kama (imitation crab stick), and cucumber!.
dynamite roll - includes yellowtail (hamachi), and fillings such as bean sprouts, carrots, chili and spicy mayo!.

Tuna, (any kind) and Salmon, general rule of thumb is the better tasting sushi is always either pink or very deep red!. Those are also the easiest for sushi newbies to eat too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
