How do I know if my Pomegranate powder (anardana) is fresh?!


Question: How do I know if my Pomegranate powder (anardana) is fresh!?
I bought a plastic jar of Anardana (Rani Brand) and it smells like playdoh, like a really salty stale kinda smell!. Is it bad!? I just bought it and I wanna know what it should smell like if its fresh!. also, is Rani a good brand of spices!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Like Sumac they dry the seed pods and berries before pulverizing them, I have both in my cupboard now, I do alot of Iranian style Kebabs and other Arabic veggie dishes, it will vary in aroma but not to be concerned it is just the concentrated flavour in the product that gives it off, fresh would be the raw pomegranate seed and they have a musty aroma to me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The pulp of the fruit is rubbery black on fresh anardana!. On the old anardana the pulp just dries out and look like seeds have been just dyed blackWww@FoodAQ@Com
