It tastes sooooo delicious!.
Real frijoles, tortillas, bunuelos, chicharones, carnitas and so many other Mexican foods are made with or fried in lard!.

also, pie crust is best when made with lard (bear lard is the best ever for pie crusts, actually)!.
I prefer to use fat that we've rendered ourselves, but there's always snocap manteca at the grocery for those that like their lard sterile and less flavorful!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I grew up on lard pie crusts and biscuits!. It's really tasty, but the unhydrogenated kind is much healthier than the commercial kind you see in the supermarkets here!.

We need fat in the diet!. People are brainwashed to think a diet should be fat-free!. That is wrong!. You can't survive and be healthy on a fat free diet!. Your brain shrivels up from a fat deficiency and you start thinking lard is a bad thing!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lard has been so refined today it has lost some of its flavor but never can be replaced for pie crust quality!.
In Europe many use suet (beef fat) to get around the foolishness!.!.

My mother is scotch and she makes pasties!. The pastie crust is made with lard and the flavor is distinct!. I love it and wouldn't want pasties any other way!.

lard is also commonly used in mexican cooking!.!.!. if you've eaten beans in a mexican restaurant - you've likely eaten lard!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The real question is WHY NOT!?!?!? Haven't YOU ever had a pie or a taco before in your life!? It's certainly no worse than ramen noodles; or using canned creamed soups in casseroles - or eating potatoes, corn, beans & bread at the same meal! All of those things are very unhealthy, and many people eat them!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

why not!? no trans fats to speak of and calorie wise, no fattier than any other fat source!. I grew up on pie crust made with real lard and the fact is, you need less lard to get the same results as you would with Crisco when making pie crust so in a way it would be fewer calories and less fat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lard is a STAPLE for cooking in the "good old days"!. I've eaten more than my share of fried foods that were fried in lard!!

Crisco and other types of shortening have taken over as "lard alternatives" but the food just seems to taste better when fried in lard!!!

heck ya its delish! I HAVE to make bacon or sausage every time I have biscuits just so I can put the drippings on them!. Love butter too, and use it on virtually everything, but I would use bacon drippings every time if I could!
