I am a former chef and have made it in several Swedish renditions, like the first girl said it has to be soaked and rinsed 2 times, like salt cod, there is a substitute for lukefisk, cooked and flaked, I have made it with either sliced cooked potatoes, fresh dill and a sour cream sauce with horseradish and apple like the herring salad or in mashed potatoes and made like a croquettes, even just with boiled potato's and served warm with melted butter and chopped dill!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
From one Norskie to another,UFTA !!!
I live in North Dakota, but my mom grew up in Strathcona MN!. pop!.43
All my mom does is she cooks the fish in some salt water, just a simmer until you can flake a piece off, do not over cook,or it will get slimy!. You can also bake it in a glass casserole with a cover on it,check after 20 min!. if not ready check every 8 min!.
We eat ours with butter and a sprinkle of allspice on it,and always have boiled potato's and green beans with it, I wish I could send you some good Red River Valley potato's from Grand Forks !!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
