Answers:
~The Italian-American version of the cannoli uses cow's milk ricotta cheese flavored with vanilla but the Sicilian version uses fresh sheep's milk ricotta!. Now, it's fashionable in the U!.S!. to use mascarpone cheese but it does change the taste and consistency!. The Sicilians add pistachios, candied citrus peel, tiny bits of dark chocolate and Marsala wine, orangewater or rosewater!. Some Italian-Americans add candied fruit and chocolate chips!.

Cow's milk ricotta and mascarpone cheeses are widely available but fresh sheep's milk ricotta is usually not found in major supermarkets but many Italian specialty shops carry it!. You have to use it right away because it's fresh!.

If you ever get the chance to taste a REAL Sicilian cannoli, you'll never want the typical Italian-American cannoli again!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can get all the ingredients for cannoli in the US, but they aren't common household items!.
The main ingredient would be ricotta or marscapone cheese!. These are common Italian ingredients, but not as popular in the US!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The ricotta or marscapone cheese are normally sweetened with sugar to take the tartness of the cheeses out!. I always add chocolate chips to mine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
