Question: What are some simple Norwegian foods!?
I'm doing a project for a class, and my assignment is to bring in a Norwegian food!. What is something simple to make or preferably buy that screams norway!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Norwegian Christmas Pudding


1 lb Butter
2 c Water
6 tb Flour
1 1/4 c Flour
6 c Milk
1/2 ts Salt
1 Beaten egg
2 ts Sugar
Cinnamon

Melt butter & water, bring to a boil for 5 minutes,
add 6 tablespoons flour, stir in with a whisk!. Wait a
few minutes & remove the fat that comes out (this is
used later)!. Add 1 1/4 cups flour & stir again, add
milk which has been heated, use electric mixer to keep
it from getting lumpy!. while beating, add salt, egg &
sugar!. Put in crock pot to keep warm with the skimmed
fat poured over pudding & add sugar & cinnamon!.

BAKED APPLES NORWEGIAN - STYLE

2 lg!. red baking apples
1/3 c!. chopped pecans
2 tbsp!. brown sugar
1/8 tsp!. ground nutmeg
1 c!. (4 oz!.) shredded Gjetost cheese
1/4 c!. raisins
1/2 tsp!. ground cinnamon

Cut each apple in half crosswise; remove core!. Combine Gjetost cheese, pecans, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spoon an equal portion into and over each apple half!. Arrange apples in 8-inch microwave safe baking dish!.

Microwave, uncovered, on high 5-6 minutes, rotating dish and apples after 3 minutes!. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand 3 minutes!. Makes 4 servings!.

Conventional oven method: Place apples in baking dish; set dish in pan containing 1/4 cup water!. Tent tightly with foil; bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees!.

Okay this one is super simple appetizer, you can get the cheese from your grocery store, very common)

MARINATED EDAM CHEESE (MARINERT EDAMEROST
11 oz!., scant (300g) Edam cheese
1 red paprika, cut in strips
1 1/4 cups (3 dl) olive oil
7/8 cup (2 dl) white vinegar
1 tbsp!. red pepper, finely chopped
1 tbsp!. oregano
1 tbsp!. thyme
1 tbsp!. green peppercorns
2 garlic cloves
Serve with crackers or dark bread!.

Dice cheese the size of sugar cubes!. Prick with a fork to allow the marinade to be absorbed!. Mix all ingredients for marinade in a heavy-bottomed casserole and bring to a boil!. Cool!. Layer cheese and paprika in a jar and pour marinade over all!. Cover and chill!. Keeps 2-3 weeks in refrigerator!. Let come to room temperature before serving, allowing cheese to come to full-flavor!.

Mashed Potatoes With Jarlsberg Cheese( you can get the cheese at the grocery store)

Ingredients
6 cups mashed potatoes
1 cup milk, heated
1 1/2 cups jarlsberg cheese, diced 8 ounces
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon seasoning salt, # 186936
Directions
1Preheat oven to 350 degrees!.
2Mix the hot milk into the cold potatoes to soften add 1 1/4 cup cheese!.
3Place into a butter casserole pan!.
4Top with the remaining cheese, brush the oil over the top and sprinkle salt!.
5Place in over for 20-30 minutes!. Then place under broiler to brown the top if desired!.

Cinnamon Buns


6 cups white flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup margarine
50g yeast
2 cups lukewarm milk
2 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp sugar

Mix together the first 4 ingredients, then add the milk!. Knead slightly and let the dough rise 1 hour!. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together!.

Divide the dough in half, then roll each piece to a square about 16"x16"!. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top!. Roll up each into a piece and slice off 12 equally-sized pieces!. Shape into rolls!. Let rise on a pan!. Brush with egg white, then sprinkle with sugar!. Bake at 325 degrees for 15-17 minutes until they are golden!.
