Are Habenero peppers and Jamaican hot peppers the same thing?!
Answers:
As a a former chef and having worked in Jamaica, and I have used habaneros, while not exactly the same, they are of the same botanical species, the soil and growing conditions are what changes the heat and flavour, scotch bonnet peppers tend to have a more pungent flavour and the heat is right at you!.
Were the habenero is a bit less pungent, and the heat can be there or sneak up on you, I have some sauce made with the red savina habenero the second hottest pepper next the Naga/Bhut Jolika from India, while you can interchange the two peppers, there will be some heat and flavour differences in your dish if you use the SCB in a HAB dish, but the kick will be there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Habeneros are grown strictly in central america and far southwest USA!. They are the small orange sort of wrinkled looking pepper!.
Jamaica has several peppers, some that closely resemble the habenero!. The taste is different but the Jules scale rating is pretty much the same depending on the growing conditions!.
But Jamaica has a pepper called the Scotch Bonnet!. It looks a little like one of those tiny pumpkins you see at Halloween time!. But the bonnet is used strictly for cooking and is never cut up!. You leave the fruit intact and fry or bake or boil it in the food!. It is always removed before serving!.
If the bonnet burst then the entire dish must be disposed of!. The Scotch Bonnet is the hottest pepper commercially sold, based on the Jules scale!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
